Ego Trippin’ Review !

sd.jpgAbout half of Ego Trippin’ was produced by “QDT Muzic,” a team made up of Snoop, Teddy Riley, who was the Pharrell Williams of the late Eighties and early Nineties, and DJ Quik, who would have been the Dr. Dre of the same period, except that Dre already had the job. Along with Terrace Martin, who adds live instruments, they take vintage Eighties sounds — old-school synths, vocoders — and purée them into a hip-hop mix as dense as anything the Bomb Squad ever did. Madonna – Hard Candy (2008) Review !

madonna.jpgThe press from all over the world is having an advance taste of Madonna’s “Hard Candy” these days and they have been filled with information, teasers and exclusive previews over the past few months. So here’s what the Tribers are already familiar with, along with some more info. On the basis of the five tracks we heard, it sounds exactly like you’d expect a collaboration between Madonna and such super-producers as Timbaland and The Neptunes to sound: a slick, ultra-modern urban dance concoction. As has become customary for a Madonna album, it will be launched with a terrific lead-off single in the shape of 4 Minutes. “…His tracks for Hard Candy are crazy, I couldn’t fuck around, I had to come with it…” Williams says with a laugh. It’s a 8:5 split album with The Neptunes getting 8 and Timbaland & Co. getting 5 tracks.

Pharrell’s Vibe Interview !

paper-magazine-11.jpgThe seven or so tracks Pharrell played vacillated between heavily percussive, rattling drum ‘n’ bass freakouts (”Spazz,” in particular is something fierce) and melody-driven heartbreakers. He copped to the emotional split on the album, mixing one part guitar-driven body rock with one part soft, synth-driven emo&B (think the group’s “Run To the Sun” from In Search Of…)

It sounds closer to that debut than the somewhat maligned Fly Or Die, an interesting experiment with modern rock and lounge-appropriate crooning that unfortunately featured a Good Charlotte collaboration. But the sound is even more aggressive than their well-received debut, and Pharrell emphasized a hunger for “German festival crowds, like 90,000 white boys thrashing.
