I am OTHER signee Maxine Ashley has been interviewed by the A.R.T.S.Y Magazine where she talked about how she has been discovered on YouTube and she talked about working on her Mixtape ‘Mood Swings’ and her Debut Album. She says that the project is going to be crazy, about her Mixtape, and it’s going to leave her fans wanting more. The singer says that she had the opportunity to work with a lot of very notable artists and producers. She even hinted that she may work with the new king of the West Coast; Kendrick Lamar.
Maxine Ashley views ‘Mood Swings’ as a sort of reward to her supporters for having been so patient with her in terms of putting out the project. “The reason I called it mood swings is that it fits whatever is your type of music. I also don’t know; I just make music on how I feel. Each song fits a different mood.” The singer says that the project will have a ton of awesome surprises and will put on display Skateboard P’s knack for producing hits in full force.
“Mood Swings” is a work in progress and will drop when Maxine feels it is ready. For now she says her fans could expect it to drop during the summer, and it will consist of between 10 and 11 tracks. At the same time the singer is also working on a full-fledged album. The album will more than likely mark her triumphant entrance on to the world stage. As for the actual album, Maxine says that it will showcase Pharrell’s talents of production even more so that her Mixtape. “It is gonna be P at his best, and cooler that ever.” Photos by Tommy Thomas.

With his sophomore album right around the corner, Mac Miller confirms that we will have to wait until after ‘Watching Movies With The Sound’ off releases before we get our hands on ‘Pink Slime.’ Last year Mac Miller made a ground breaking announcement when he unveiled that he would be joining forces with Neptunes super producer Pharrell for a collaboration album titled ‘Pink Slime.’ It was set to drop at the end of 2012, but as with most big name collaboration albums/mixtapes, the project never saw the light of day. The two did team up to drop some music together, but Mac Miller revealed that he has to build his brand a bit more before dropping that project.
“Pink Slime with Pharrell was the next move for awhile, but I just realized that it wasn’t time to do that yet. Like before I take my brand and mix it with Pharrell I wanna solidify what my brand is first. So I wanna do my album first,” Mac explained in an interview with Hot 97. We don’t have an official release date for Mac Miller’s ‘Watching Movies With The Sound Off’ album, but he did team up with Flying Lotus for the lead single titled ‘S.D.S.‘ last week.

The incredible Daughter stepped into the BBC Radio One Live Lounge to perform some tracks from their recently released album If You Leave for Huw Stephens. Aside from performing their own tracks, the forward thinking acoustic/folk outfit (fronted by singer Elena Tonra alongside Igor Haefeli & Remi Aguilella) delivered their own unique take on the smash hit single “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell and Nile Rodgers. The hauntingly beautiful cover strips away the disco influenced elements of the original bringing an impressive new dimension of musicality to the track.
Here is the latest track from Chad’s band with Paul Banks (of Interpol) called ‘No Planes In Space‘. Chad is back in Kenna/Radiohead mode… The last 30 seconds or so remind me of when The Neptunes used to be weird, you can check it out below.

Here is the second collaboration between Pharrell & Daft Punk including Nile Rodgers on the tune ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’. It’s just a teaser for now, but it sounds like another hit is on the way. The track is the second collaboration with the N*E*R*D frontman and disco legend Nile Rogers, and follows ‘Get Lucky‘ perfectly with its seventies guitar licks, provided by the Chic star. The 15-second snippet features a tiny extract of Pharrell’s vocals and was once again premiered during Us TV show Saturday Night Live. Daft Punk have also confirmed the tracklisting for the new album, which is due 20th May 2013, check it out below.
The Official Singles Chart Update Top 40 is as follows:
Daft Punk felt Pharrell Williams was the perfect choice to guest on their new single ‘Get Lucky‘ since he is such a class act. The electronic music duo invited the hip-hop star to record a guest vocal on ‘Get Lucky‘ – the lead single from their comeback album ‘Random Access Memories‘ – because they thought he would bring a touch of elegance to the track. In a track-by-track commentary for Obsession.fr, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo explained: “It felt natural to invite him to be part of our album. He’s a born performer in every way, who oozes elegance. “He’s not always had the opportunity to show he can be an excellent singer, even though he has earned his place in the legacy of mythical performers.”
The French band say they aimed to capture the feeling of being in a time capsule from the past with the sound of the song and hope its beats transcend different generations. They said: “There is no imaginary line which divides the great artists of the past and today’s musicians, who are supposedly less good than before. “We wanted to give the impression of being in a time capsule, in the studio, cut off from the rest of the word.
By Adelle Platon. Pharrell is making a special delivery. In a new collaboration with Los Angeles-base subscription service Quarterly Co., Skateboard P has been recruited alongside several tastemakers to ship a package filled with hand-picked goodies to their enthusiasts. Here, he keeps a tight lip on the contents but offers up his inquisitive thoughts on space travel, being named a VIBE genius and a gift he received from Daft Punk.
VIBE: So what can subscribers expect inside of a Pharrell package?
Well, I can’t tell you exactly what’s in there, but I think that more so than anything else I just love and appreciate the opportunity to give my supporters a package quarterly, pun intended, so that they can get to know [me] better and they get what we want them to have as well.
If a package was curated for you with items from the past, present and future with no price tag, what five items would you want?
Well if I told you that then I’d be telling you what I put in there. (laughs) The whole thing is to leave it open for them. When they get it, they’re excited and know that we really care about them and that’s me and my team because it’s not just me. I love my fans. I never want to cheat them, use them or barter them when it comes to other brands coming to me for endorsements. I don’t walk in leveraging my demographic although that’s what they’ll think. I just purposely don’t do that. If I like a product, then I’ll endorse a product but I’ll never drag my supporters that made me and have been feeding me and my family for years. Quarterly is what that’s for.
First announced earlier this month in what, at first, appeared to be a cruel April Fools’ Day joke, NOWHERE / A Bathing Ape have now unveiled the full range of collaborative 20th Aniversary tees. Created in conjunction with heavy-hitters like Kanye West, Pharrell, Futura and more, the collection features white graphic tees with each artist contributing a specialized rendition of BAPE‘s various ape-inspired imagery – each of which also appears on the recently revealed tiled tee and canvas.
Look for the tees to be available alongside corresponding canvases this weekend at the 20th Anniversary exhibition at T-SITE Garden Gallery TSUTAYA in Daikanyama before hitting BAPE flagships and ZOZOTOWN the following week. A full list of the collaborators appears below.
By Jason Duaine Hahn. Last week, music and style innovator Pharrell Williams performed at the Brooklyn House Of Vans in front of an intimate crowd as part of his new partnership with HTC. Recently announced as the brand ambassador for the HTC One phone—which features two front forward-facing speakers for those who put music first—Pharrell’s pairing with the mobile company seems idyllic. It’s a phone HTC says is “everything your phone isn’t.” Complex recently spoke with the Virginia native about his new partnership, the future of music, and what’s next.
Complex: Why did becoming a brand ambassador for HTC feel like a logical move for you?
Pharrell: Well, I felt like their approach was very interesting. I felt like what really got my attention was HTC’s interest in our demographic, you know, and their approach is so cool. Who just decides they’re going to dedicate a concert to their sound?
You mentioned their approach was cool. What does ‘cool’ mean for you?
It feels more personal, it’s not totally in your face, it’s direct to the fans. To me, that’s the best when you feel like you can see through the company when they’re doing these things. It’s what you see that keeps your attention, and makes you want to work with them as a fan. When a company is sneaking something up on you, the approach just feels disingenuous, and you watch these kids just walk away, and I felt like, here, they get the fans. I’m in to them.
So the one-on-one experience is what drew you to it?
Yeah, that’s the thing. I just felt like it was cool on a marketing level they would approach things the same way.

In a conversation at Del Posto in New York, Pharrell talked about how he got involved with Bionic Yarn, which turns waste plastic into material for clothing. A pair of jeans reuses 7 water bottles worth of plastic, a hoodie uses 12. Pharrell said he was partly inspired by a rant from right-wing pundit Rush Limbaugh, who accused Pharrell of being a hypocrite for playing an Earth Day celebration while enjoying private flights and fast cars. “I’m like, ‘Why is he attacking me? What did I do?’ But if I look at what he was saying, if I look at the criticism, it’s like, well, yeah, okay, my carbon footprint is probably off the charts, so let me involve myself with something that will give me sort of like a balance.”
With Bionic Yarn he subsequently landed deals with large corporate partners to make fabric from the recycled material. “That was so I could rest at night. I took a private flight, okay, but we just did this huge collaboration, and we did all of the denim for two weeks for Gap in Japan…. It was kind of like, alright, Rush.” He also talks about making Madonna cry, about how Rush Limbaugh made him think about sustainability, and the inside story of his collaboration with Daft Punk on “Get Lucky.”, and unfortunately he revealed that he didn’t score the Despicable Me 2 Score but only the Soundtrack.
Pharrell also talked about the creative trade-off in successful collaborations: “I may not know a lot about the field, but I know I may have a decent idea. So it’s an interesting trade: I kind of get paid to learn how to really do it and to bring an interesting slant to whatever their existing business is. Pharrell on choosing collaborators: “When I’m choosing a collaborator, it’s usually because I feel like, beyond what they’re teaching me, when there are things that I don’t understand, I’ll trust them. I’ll say, ‘Okay. You know better than I do.’ You can check out whole Interview below.

Tom Dumont from No Doubt tweeted a No Doubt fan page to say the songs they just did with Pharrell are “epic“.
