Quincy Jones still makes music and is on the charts and wins awards. He crosses all genres of music. And he produces music with REAL instruments and actual sheet music, not some producing software or machine. If it wasn't for Quincy working with Michael so many of our great producers of today would've pursued other careers. He's the spark that lit the fire. He is survival of the fittest. The producers that rely on modern production wouldn't have survived 40 years ago while Quincy been there done that and is still doing it.

When Teddy Riley played tracks for Michael for his Dangerous LP, Michael liked "Remember The Time" immediately. If he didn't have that immediate reacion to the Neptune tracks, the songs simply were not meant for Michael. They were meant fror Justin. Michael went by feeling and emotion. If he wasn't feeling the Neptune songs and turned them down, that doesn't mean his made the biggest mistake of his career. The man sold over 100 million records with Thriller alone and no one has topped that since. Michael Jackson had nothing to prove by doing a song with the Neptunes.

I've never heard of any of those songs listed above from the Timberlake/Usher albums, so they really can't have been all that good after all. Frankly, the Neptunes are a bit boring, especially compared to Jackson's past form, so no wonder MJ's management said no.

FIRST OF ALL, I GREW UP ON MJ--MY MOTHER BOUGHT ME SECOND HAND LOAFERS, AND SEWED SEQUINS ON A WHITE GLOVE AND WHITE SOCKS FOR ME--AND I KNEW ALL HIS MOVES BY HEART---BUT SPEAKING AS A PRODUCER IT WAS A MISTAKE---MICHAEL AT THIS POINT HAD A DECISION TO MAKE---EITHER STAY CURRENT AND RELEVANT--OR DO THE SAME OLD THING. SEE, THE OLD MICHAEL STUFF WAS GREAT BCUZ NOBODY EVER HEARD IT BEFORE. tHE 90'S MICHAEL WAS ACTUALLY WHERE HE WAS DOING WHAT THEY WERE ASKING--HIS SOUND WAS CURRENT I.E. "NEW JACK SWING" COURTESY OF TEDDY RILEY. WHICH WAS NEW AS A WHOLE--BUT NOT REALLY A DISTINCT NEW SOUND FOR MJ BCUZ OTHER ARTISTS WERE ALREADY DOING IT. THRILLER AND BAD WERE GROUNDBREAKING. TO GO WITH THE NEPTUNES WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER--WHY? WELL, IF U KNO THE NEPTUNES AT ALL THEN U KNO WHAT ALSO COULD HAVE HAPPENED WAS A LOOK INTO THEIR MINDS AND WHAT ELSE THEY COULD COME UP WITH. IF U LISTEN TO THEIR ARTIST KENNA'S FIRST ALBUM--IT SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE THE NEPTUNES! AND N.E.R.D.? IMAGINE A BRAINSTORM WITH NEW SOUNDS AND IDEAS THAT THE NEPTUNES ARE NOT AFRAID TO DO. THIS COULD HAVE LED TO A COUPLE!! OF GREAT NEW ALBUMS. WHILE DARKCHILD (RODNEY JERKINS) IS VERY TALENTED--THE FURTHEST I'VE HEARD HIM GO OUT THE BOX IS JUST TAKING A STEADY BASS DRUM PATTERN WITH NO SNARE (HOUSE MUSIC, TRANCE). SO WHEN U GET A CHANCE--LISTEN TO THE WHOLE NEPTUNES CATALOG AND SEE WHAT THEY REALLY HAVE TO OFFER.

Oh I know you didn't say it Mika, lol. Critics have written that since it came out MJ passed on those songs/beats. I always get worked up when it comes to MJ since I've been old enough to get on defense I would say it started at 8 out in the school yard, lol!

Thank you Mika!
I wonder how the demos that the Neps sent out to MJ sounded like - I reckon they must have sound like shit.
I mean, "Last Night" sounded very cheap when they sequenced it.
Just a funny thought, imagine how bad Justified would have sound if it wasn't for the live instruments.
It's like comparing the first and second leg of "In Search Of..." where the first one was, at least for me, really poor.

However, imagine Michael sing "U Don't Have To Call", man what a fucking monster seeing Michael in the video go like:
"Gonna boogie tonight, cause I'm honestly too young of a guy, to stay home waiting for love. So tonight I'm gonna do what every single man should... and that's party".
That shit right there, I get chills only by thinking of it.

I miss Michael so much :(
I feel just like Teddy, it's hard to hold back tears and it's impossible to be "ok" that MJ is not with us any more:

BTW, "Pharrell's Steps to Success Pt 2 of 3 [Rest In Beats]" is up:

I hardly think MJ made a career mistake. Invisible is a great album regardless. 40 years of music . I'm just saying Michael Jackson 750 million albums sold and Justin's first album - which was much anticipated. I would say it worked out for the best for The Neptunes working with JT & Usher, those songs stay in rotation. I don't see Rodney Jerkins getting this kind of love by having MJ choose his songs instead. Just the opportunity to work with MJ is an honor even if you didn't make the album.

I think the point is that MJ turned down songs because "they were not good enough", and the songs turned out to be great, would they have been great had MJ taken the songs we'll never know, but the were good beginnings... and this was at a time when he wanted to make a comeback and be current in pop music which was he never really able to do, and his last album even tho it sold 2 mil records it was not really a fan or critic hit.

I really don't know what you are talking about MJ having the worst mistake of his career...that album still sold two million copies and got good reviews. MJ is the immortal king of pop, and whatever he does turns into platinum...so I really don't see why you cant let that guy rest in peace. It wasn't anything drastic that he HAD to work with the Neptunes because they were all that and a bag of chips.
