neptunes-arcade-shoot-5.jpgToday, after many phone calls and playing phone tag with a half a dozen people, I was granted the opportunity to interview Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, otherwise known as production duo The Neptunes. If you aren’t familar with them, they have produced records for a lot of popular artists today, such as Jay-Z, Britney Spears, The Hives, Gwen Stefani, Kelis, Slim Thug, Snoop Dogg, etc. Pharrell typically sings on hooks and has had a pretty steady feature and solo career.

neptunes-2001-2.jpgI was only given 15 minutes to interview them and I really had no idea what to expect from them. However, Pharrell and Chad were real class acts. They were personable, which is nice. Sometimes people can be stiff during an interview. They weren’t shy to answer any question, even though I think I kind of rambled on during the interview. It’s the first time I was a little nervous about an interview.

the-neptunesa.jpgThe interview was about their group N¤E¤R¤D who is coming to Lawrence in the near future. At the end, Pharrell extended an invite to meet up with them at their show, which I am stoked about. Now I understand not everyone is a fan of these guys, but it’s just nice to know that there are some classy entertainers out there. The interview will be featured in Jayplay on the Thursday before Spring Break.
