Education has never been more important. In the next five years almost 2/3 of all jobs will require some kind of degree after high school. But we’re not ready. We once led the world in college graduation rates, but in a single generation we’ve slipped to twelfth place. That is why Get Schooled is launching the Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour as part of its efforts to engage and empower more Americans. Bottom line? Our young people are not getting the education they need and America is not getting the educated workforce it needs. We need to challenge the status quo. Alone, the problem seems too big. Together, we can meet the challenge and make America the most educated, innovative, forward looking country again.

Take a look at these stats and try to convince yourself that everything is “OK” with our educational system:

Every 26 seconds a student drops out of high school.
Each year, over 1.2 million students-that’s 7,000 every school day-do not graduate from high school on time.
70% of all eighth graders do not read on grade level.
One third of all U.S. students fail to graduate high school and most low-income students who start college never finish.
America can’t meet the challenge unless all of us step up. Ludacris, Keri Hilson, Jay Sean, Pharrell and many others are stepping up. What will you do? By making a commitment to do better in school, re-enroll in high school, or finally go to college, be a more-involved parent, or even just volunteer a few hours a month in a local school, we all can be a part of the solution.

Explore getschooled.com. Get some ideas, give some ideas and most importantly tell us what you are going to do, and then let us know how you did! With a challenge this big, no step is too small.

Lastly, don’t forget to visit the Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour Bus when it comes to your city and learn how you can step up and help America get schooled!
