Lending background vocals to several tracks off Kanye West’s most recent platinum selling album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Teyana Taylor experienced a musical rebirth in her recording career, when the album dropped last November. Receiving critical acclaim and newfound attention to her singing capabilities, the twenty-one year old was rumored to be in talks with several major labels. Teyana was formerly signed to Pharrell’s Star Trak Entertainment in 2007 but her debut LP was never released. Now, with Kanye West and Jay-Z requesting her services to the throne, things are looking pretty G.O.O.D. for the Harlem bombshell. “Something big just happened to me,” Teyana tells VIBE from the Mercer Hotel in New York City. “It was a big meeting.”
She continues: “I’m in a good situation, good songs, with some good people… good dudes… capital G-O-O-D,” she says with reluctance. While Taylor wouldn’t confirm that she officially signed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music imprint, the proof is in the pudding. “Tonight is probably the best night. To get to vibe with amazing people—people that you look up to and for them to want your opinion and input, I think is really dope. Tonight is a very, very, very very amazing night for me,” she continues. “They might not understand it but they definitely going to respect it.” VIBE has learned that Teyana is currently laying vocals for Jay and Kanye West’s first collaborative project, Watch The Throne.
