‘True Crime: Hong Kong’ Cancelled By Activision Because It Wasn’t ‘Good Enough’

Bad News right there. Although Activision has been portrayed as a heartless slasher of jobs and destroyer of livelihoods, sometimes even by yours truly, there are apparently instances where these decisions are indeed fueled by quality considerations. I’ll even put my strong dislike for the company aside that it’s probably what fueled most of them. What I don’t understand is why dismantle a whole studio for what are ostensibly management failures?

“Even our most optimistic internal projections show that continued investment was not going to lead to a title at, or near, the top of the competitive open world genre,” , the very same Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg who nixed hopes of a 2011 Activision Bungie debut said. “In an industry where only the best games in each category are flourishing, to be blunt, it just wasn’t going to be good enough.” Well, at one point Activision thought the franchise and studio were worth having and though the consequences of this decision for developers United Front aren’t quite clear, I’m hoping that hasn’t changed. Rhea was supposed to have the tune My Motorcycle on the OST with her new group Jealous LoveR but we’ll have to wait for the studio version somewhere else *sad face*.
