The Arizona Jazz Festival is bringing its biggest lineup to date to the Wigwam Resort and Spa this fall. The three days of music by more than 20 national R&B, old school, pop and jazz musicians runs Oct. 25-27 and is expected to attract more than 13,000 music aficionados. Headlining Friday’s lineup is multiple Grammy award winner Maxwell. Saturday’s show features 2013 BET Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Charlie Wilson, Erykah Badu and Chaka Khan. Singers Keyshia Cole and Robin Thicke will close the festival on Oct. 27. Tickets start at $65 for a single day and $195 for a three-day pass. A small number of room and concert packages are available.
Get tickets and information at (602) 244-8444 or ArizonaJazzFestival.com. The Virgin FreeFest Festival will be held Sept. 21 and tickets go on “free” Aug. 9. The festival will be held Sept. 21 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., and once again weaves indie rock, pop and EDM royalty together. On the main stage: Vampire Weekend, The Avett Brothers, Pretty Lights, Robin Thicke, MGMT, Kaskade, City and Colour, Icona Pop, Chvrches, The Knocks, Black Joe Lewis, Sky Ferreira and Little Green Cars.
In the dance forest, Madeon, Gareth Emery, Washed Out, Manufactured Superstars, Congorock, TJR and Ghost Beach will bang out the beats. Per usual, tickets are mostly free. Paying customers get the first shot Aug. 8 (noon ET). The rest become available Aug. 9 (noon ET) via ticketfly.com. Last year, all 50,000 tickets were gone in minutes, so have your mouse finger ready. The festival’s primary beneficiary has been youth homelessness, with the first shelter erected last year in Washington.
