Pharrell Williams, Jill Scott and Empire’s Jussie Smollett claimed major wins at the 47th NAACP Image Awards‘ pre-show gala dinner last Thursday night. Held at the Pasadena Conference Center, the celebration feted winners in recorded music as well as 44 other categories. Pharrell won for Outstanding Male Artist, Tyrese Gibson for outstanding music video (“Shame”), Miles Davis for outstanding jazz album (Miles Davis at Newport 1955-1975: The Bootleg Series Vol. 4) and Tina Campbell for outstanding traditional/contemporary gospel album (It’s Personal).
The 47th NAACP Image Awards will announce the winners in its 10 remaining categories (2/5) during a two-hour live telecast on TV One (9 p.m. ET/PT tape-delayed). Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the ceremony will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
