Nile Rodgers has dropped a massive hint that Pharrell Williams features on the new Chic album. The 63-year-old pop legend is getting ready to unveil his band’s highly anticipated LP this year and has suggested his friend – who he collaborated with on Daft Punk’s 2013 smash hit ‘Get Lucky‘ – has contributed to it. When asked if Pharrell has lent his vocals to the record, he said with a laugh: “Maybe, Pharrell … maybe. I think maybe is a really good answer to that question! I want to leave some surprises until the album is out.”
Two confirmed guest stars for the album are Sir Elton John and Janelle Monae who duet on a track together. Nile admits the song he has created with the two vocalists has moved him to tears because it is so wonderful. Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he revealed: “Elton John and Janelle Monae sounds an unlikely pairing but the song came out phenomenal. It really is amazing, the song really brings tears to your eyes, it’s great. They were so passionate in their delivery, I couldn’t be happier with it.”
Nile and Chic – who released the first single, ‘I’ll Be There’, from the LP last year – will be joining Duran Duran on their ‘Paper Gods World Tour‘ when it kicks off in North America at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater on April 2. And the ‘Good Times‘ hitmaker says the Chic album will drop around the time of the tour. Nile – who co-produced the British band’s fourteenth studio album ‘Paper Gods‘ – said: “Most people have probably figured it out. Duran Duran announced our world tour together, so everybody figured – and rightly so – that the Chic album will be coming out around the time of our world tour with Duran Duran. Playing with the guys is going to be great because for me it’s like I have both my bands on one stage it’s awesome.”
