According to N*E*R*D’s Twitter, they’ve been in the studio working with the wonderful Yuna probably for her second studio album. “making some amazing music w/ @yunamusic“. In a time when music seems to be dominated by digital effects, over-the-top productions and even bigger personalities, it’s nice to come across an artist who shines with the quiet glow of raw, unabridged talent. Yuna Zarai, a 24-year-old singer/songwriter from Malaysia is one such musician. Yuna’s clear, earnest harmonies are bound to end up on your daily playlist (her single “Decorate,” is the song to put on repeat when you’re nursing a broken heart), and they’re so good that she was recently snapped up by The Fader for their music label.
It’s not just her music we’re craving, we’re equally enchanted by her unique style. Being Muslim, Yuna wears the hijab, and we admire the way she’s stylishly incorporated her headscarf into her modest yet experimental getups. Whether as a singer, guitarist, lyricist, blogger, or stylista (she owns her own boutique!), Yuna sure knows how to wear many hats (or shall we say scarves?) in her own inimitable way. Yunalis Zarai (24) or commercially known as Yuna, a Malaysian singer-songwriter.
She began writing her own songs when she was 14 years old, and her first performance of her own songs was at the age of 19, after she learned how to play guitar. She has performed in numerous acoustic shows and events in many parts of Malaysia since 2006. She signed with Fader Label in February 2011, a record label based in New York, where she released her debut album ‘Decorate’ this March. Check out some of her songs after the jump.
