Chad Hugo has followed his partner Pharrell Williams into the film music ring, composing half a dozen themes for the Manny Pacquiao documentary, “Manny.” One of the film’s directors, Ryan Moore, has used footage from the film to create a music video for the track “Face Your Destiny (Manny’s Theme).” Hugo, who works with Williams in The Neptunes and N*E*R*D., wrote and performed the song with Cameron Rafati, Tommy Leonard, Rob Rivera and Randy Jackson.
Cameron the Public is the vocalist. Hugo is using the name Yardnoise for the music; Lorne Balfe did the film’s score. While “Manny” focuses Pacquiao’s rise from poverty to becoming a premier boxer and politician in the Philippines, it also takes a comical look at his ventures into entertainment as an action movie star and as a singer. Included are clips of him singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” with Will Ferrell on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and recording “Sometimes When We Touch” with songwriter Dan Hill at the Capitol Studios in Hollywood.
