Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a popular beach destination for families, nothing trendy. I was a child, like many others, although I must admit that I have always been curious, I did a thousand questions, I wanted to see, to know everything.
What did you want to be?
As a child, I had no idea what I would have chosen as a profession. My grandmother was the person who understood first of all, I would have to learn to play an instrument, he sent me a lesson because the destroyed them all pillows pretending they were my battery! Without her, I might have ended up teaching art, since I have always been creative.
The best advice I have given you in the career and life?
Be open to the new and the possibilities that brings the case. Do not interfere too much with your destiny, although this does not mean to sit and wait for something to happen.
Tell me about Bionic Yarn: When and why did you start to engage more with them?
When I realized that the heads were made of cotton and recycled plastic. The quality of the fabric left me speechless. I think that doing business with conscience is the only way to do business, we have no more excuses to ignore one of the most serious problem for the planet: pollution. I’m not an activist in the classic sense, what protest on street corners with a sign, but use the connections that I have to spread a message. I was lucky in life, and in return, I want to help anyone who is committed to saving the environment. This collaboration is important for all those like me who love fashion but do not want to exploit the natural resources of the planet. There are enough laws that regulate and protect the oceans. Fashion is a universal language that unites us regardless of race or culture. That’s why the mascot of the line is the octopus Otto the Octopus, which with its tentacles binds us all without barriers.
Why is it important sustainability in fashion?
It is important because the reuse of materials that already exist limits the environmental impact and the damaging effects on Earth. The collection “RAW for the Oceans” embraces a sustainable fashion, which has recycled more than ten tons of plastic in the oceans. Environmental organizations like Sea Shepherd Conservation Society USA and Plastic Pollution Coalition have highlighted the severity of the problem caused by the plastic. G-Star is also involved in the recycling of the yarn, separating plastic and cotton by leaders who do not want more. It is a cycle that continues and the garbage shoot a new life. For me it is very cool.
The key to your success?
As you may have figured out are eclectic. Although in the end my success I owe it to the music. Thanks to my songs I managed to buy a house to my parents. After all they have done for me, I was very proud to help them.
It is true that you will support Hillary Clinton should it stand as a candidate in the next election?
Absolutely. Also because if you submit wins for sure. Always the United States are represented by two colors: red and blue. Republicans and Democrats, as well as stand gangs Bloods and Crips. You know what else is red and blue? The American flag. The red represents the value and boldness, the blue perseverance and justice. This means that sooner or later the country will again be united, without social or racial distinctions. And sooner or later, when women control the world, and it will happen soon, it will be a different, better world. That’s gonna happen, and will happen thanks to Hillary.
