Photo by Vanessa Von Zitzewitz. An upcoming ad campaign for Virginia Beach will feature a new song by hometown star Pharrell Williams. A city official tells the Virginian-Pilot that Williams contacted the city last year asking how he could help after the mass shooting at a municipal building in May. That led to a a multi-year plan involving the singer in tourism and economic development initiatives. As part of that, the singer will narrate two 60-second Commercials with his soon-to-be-released song, “Virginia.”
The Soultrain Awards 2014 celebrated and honored soul music’s brightest new stars as well as R&B’s greatest legends during the star-studded show, which aired on CENTRIC and BET on November 30, 2014. Chris Brown was the big winner of the night, walking away with three awards, while Pharrell Williams and Beyonce both took home two.
The Soultrain Awards 2014 was hosted by talk show host Wendy Williams and featured show-stopping performances by Chris Brown, Jodeci, Nico & Vinz, Tinashe, Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott and Da Brat, and also honored funk music icons Kool & The Gang with the Legend Award. Jodeci reunited onstage to perform classic fan favorites “Freek’n You,” “Come & Talk to Me,” “Stay” and “Forever My Lady,” in addition to debuting their new single, “Nobody Wins.”
