By Leanne Aguilera. The battle rounds on The Voice continue as the judges pit their team members against one another in hopes of creating a team filled with the best of the best. But before you tune into round 2 of the battles, we’ve got a special sneak peek clip that you definitely can’t miss. Hollywood.com has your exclusive look into the mind of Usher as the freshman judge reveals why Pharrell Williams is the perfect mentor for his team. On Monday night the world got its first glimpse as to what it’s like being on Team Usher, and believe us when we say you’d better bring your A-game if you think you can impress the King of R&B.

Usher showcased a no-nonsense attitude when it came to working with his team of aspiring artists and his insightful mentor, legendary music producer Pharrell, was also nearby to provide constructive criticism whenever needed. “[Pharrell] is an incredible vocal producer and an incredible person,” Usher tells The Voice’s social media correspondent Christina Milian in Hollywood.com’s exclusive clip. “He’s such an honest individual and I felt like even though the cameras are here, they disappear when he begins to talk and he’s not conscious of it and that’s what I wanted.” Ursh says he wanted to have a mentor who could help shape his team of naïve singers into well-rounded vocalists.

“I really feel like what [Pharrell] had to offer is backed up by all of his experience and having had so many different experiences with different genres of music and artists that work in different genres,” he says. Despite the fact that this is first and foremost a singing competition show, the other coaches and their teams don’t factor into Usher’s strategy. “I’m actually not even thinking about Blake or Adam or Shakira. I really have just, like, one hundred percent gotten into my team,” he says. “I don’t even need to think about them. I’ve become invested. And the one cool thing about it is I’m really building animals. They’re beasts!” Don’t miss The Voice airing Monday and Tuesdays on NBC at 8 PM.
