New York City-based band Makuta released their new single titled ‘Straight Outta Love’ produced by Chad Hugo. “‘Straight Outta Love’ is a song that we had the chorus kicking around for a while. We are a live band, and always make it a point to bring in live energy and performance into the recordings. So we record primarily live and track the core of the songs that way, to keep things honest. We finished a version of ‘Straight Outta Love’ before we went on tour this summer, and really road-tested it. We like to do that to see what resonates with folks, what they respond to, etc.
We came off tour with that song refined and fine tuned, with a greater sense of clarity on how to finish the studio version of ‘Straight Outta Love.’ We took a look at the existing recording, and even though we were still excited about it, we felt that it needed a bit more of something. Aleata brought in our good friend, Chad Hugo, to come in and add some new elements that took the song to where it needed to be.” said the group’s frontman Doug Makuta, make sure to cop the tune on iTunes, and check it out below.

The Long Beach rapper’s upcoming EP will have a visual component directed by Nabil Eldurkin. After announcing his Prima Donna EP earlier this week, Vince Staples has shared links on his website to two “private screening” events in Los Angeles and New York City on his personal website. It seems as though the Long Beach rapper will be throwing his hat into the ring with Beyoncé, ScHoolboy Q, and, most recently, Frank Ocean, who have released extensive visual projects to accompany their albums.
A flyer for the events reads, “story by Vince Staples and Nabil Elderkin,” Nabil is a Los Angeles director who is well-known for his work with Kanye West and Frank Ocean among others. The flyer also lists musical contributions from James Blake, DJ Dahi, No I.D., and Chad Hugo. Apply to win tickets to Vince Staples’ Prima Donna EP private screenings here.

R&B singer Kevin McCall just released a bunch of new tunes including a Chad Hugo collaboration titled ‘Rocketship Emoji’. Most of y’all would recognize that beat from the old Alicia Keys demo from 2007 from her third studio album ‘As I Am’ which didn’t make the final cut, instead Lupe Fiasco got the beat with the finished vocals by Alicia and released it back in 2009, and now check out the finished version by Kevin McCall below.
Daniel Biltmore has been interviewed by h-blog.com, where he talked about his relationship with Chad Hugo and traveling around the globe, check it out below.
Q: Who are you?
My name is Daniel Biltmore. I’m a Baltimore based DJ/Producer, and I work with former N*E*R*D & The Neptunes member, Chad Hugo, for a crew called MSSL CMMND.
Q: Where are you from?
I’m from Silver Spring, MD, a few miles outside of DC. I spent 25 years here before moving to Baltimore for school.
Q: What inspired and/or motivated you to start DJ’ing?
It was mainly out of necessity. When I was 14, I started realizing that a lot of the music that I wanted was only available on vinyl. So, I started buying records without even having a record player. Then one day, I dug out my dad’s old turntables and hooked them up to a mixer that I got for my birthday.
