Pharrell Williams angrily defended Snoop Dogg at Monday’s (25Feb08’) Hip Hop Summit Action Awards, blasting critics of his marijuana use. Snoop Dogg was caught in possession of the drug in New York last week (20Feb08′) and was only recently allowed back into the U.K. after a ban from entering the country because of his drug use. But at the ceremony to honour the star, Pharrell asked Snoop’s detractors to consider the charity work he does, particularly helping kids from underprivileged backgrounds.

“People criticise Snoop. Why on earth would we condemn him for that? The next time they start attacking a legend, even if it’s because he smokes, I say, ‘So what? Willie Nelson smokes a lot of pot, and people only talk about the good he does.’ “When they come down on Snoop, remind everyone about all the positive things he does.” Said Pharrell. Snoop himself torpedoing Pharrell’s good intentions by making a rolling papers joke before claiming to be mentoring 2,500 kids by proxy in his after-school football program, because the pimp-turned-televised family man is for the children.

Here are the official dates on the Chester French SXSW Showcase at Volume. Those of you who sprang for a SXSW badge or wristband get in for FREE. There will also be a limited number of tickets available for sale to everyone else. For how much? We don’t know yet, but prolly between $5 and $10. Chester French are playing at the Facebook Party On March 10th, continuing at the Volume Show on the 12th and at the Perez Hilton Party on the 15th including 1 or 2 other Surprise Shows at the festival as well.

Madonna’s upcoming album, Hard Candy, is hitting shelves on April 29 and will “kick your ass,” according to a statement from Madge through her rep, Entertainment Weekly reports. The album, is “about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness, or as Madonna so eloquently expressed, ‘I’m gonna kick your ass, but it’s going to make you feel good,”.

The hotly anticipated release, which features production by Timbaland, Nate “Danja” Hills and The Neptunes who produced several tracks including ‘Give It To Me’. “Hard Candy” is Madonna’s eleventh studio album, and is the follow-up to 2005’s “Confessions On A Dance Floor.”
