If you’re asking yourself why Pharrell is only on #14 on the Forbes Cash list, since his summer smashes, you would’ve think he woulda been at least on top 10, but the list is from last year til now, we have to wait til next year to see the result of this summer, anyways Pharrell is on the #14 with ($9 million) with Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. After losing out to Dr. Dre and his massive Beats By Dre earnings last year, Diddy has retained his title as hip-hop’s highest-paid artist.
The Bad Boy mogul/Ciroc Boy tops Forbes‘ annual Cash Kings list with a whopping $50 million in earnings over the past 12 months. Nicki Minaj, Birdman, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Ludacris and Pitbull complete the top 10, who collectively raked in a total of $256 million. Near Misses: Nas, Timbaland, Akon, 2 Chainz, J. Cole & A$AP Rocky

Robin didn’t waste a minute and walked towards the stage singing “Blurred Lines” with the help of the ladies from his music video. All suited up, Robin sang and danced his heart out. Diddy popped back out on stage at the end of Robin’s performance to give him props. His second appearance astounded everyone for a second time for the night. A pairing that we “heart.” Hey, Hey, Hey! Everyone had a blast and he left the arena wanting more.
In June, Diddy announced the creation of Revolt TV, which will be carried by Time Warner Cable, which he says is the “first channel of the social media age.” In other interviews, Diddy has mentioned that he wants Revolt to be the “ESPN of music” and hopes that it will “fill the gap left by MTV after it stopped playing music videos seven years ago.” In light of the announcement, Complex got on the phone with Diddy to ask him what it actually takes to work for Diddy, what rapper he wants to have work for Revolt, and just how life-changing his Burning Man experience was.
If you want it to be so close to the actually art form of music, pretend a ton of rappers applied to be on-air talent. If you were going to have one rapper working for you full time, who would you want that to be? That is a hard question. It would probably be Pharrell. Pharrell has been so consistent on what he does and how he sees music. He’s made us dream. People don’t realize that he is the reason people are able to do Magna Carta…Holy Grail or Yeezus or the collaborations you see or the style. And he came from Virginia, he didn’t come from New York!
The South wasn’t even hot when Pharrell came out. It would be him because there is an intellectual aspect, a passion, and an artistic side to him that translate from the hood to the trap to wherever. He’s the definition of a festival producer, which is an eclectic group of music. I don’t want to oversell why it would be him.
Sean ” Diddy ” Combs and Russell Simmons were among the stars who turned out to celebrate Robin Thicke‘s birthday over the weekend (09-10Mar13). The singer turned 36 on Sunday (10Mar13) so he hosted a start-studded party in Los Angeles on Saturday night (09Mar13) to mark the occasion. The bash took place at the city’s famed Chateau Marmont hotel and guests included Combs and Simmons, while Thicke was presented with a huge triple-layered cake complete with a microphone on top. Thicke posted a picture of the sweet treat on Twitter.com with the caption, “Thank you… You guys are the best.”
It’s that time of the year again. Forbes comes through with their annual Hip-Hop Cash Kings List, which names the top 20 earners from the past calender year. While the top five names haven’t changed in recent years, it’s always good to observe newcomers to the list. Topping this year’s list is Dr. Dre, who earned $110 million, mainly due to his stake in phone company HTC which Beats By Dre bought 51% stake in. Diddy comes in a distant second with $45 million, while ‘The Throne’ of Jay-Z and Kanye West respectively earn $38 and $35 million. Lil’ Wayne rounds out the top five coming in with $27 million in earnings the past year. The new faces to make this list includes Mac Miller and Tech N9ne. With the success of their new albums (Mac’s historic debut), relentless touring, and merchandise, both appeared for the first time. Pharrell Williams is on the #17 with $7 million.

The 10th Annual Art Basel Miami Fair kicks off tomorrow and some of our favorite celebs are already on the beach sipping champagne and gearing their eyeballs ready to look at some interesting art. One hip-hop mogul we spotted was Diddy in a sweater that reminded us of Chester Cheetos, from a distance. Up close Sean Combs was actually nursing his right arm in sling. Was he really hurt or is Diddy now adding performance art to his resume? Either way, we hope he’s OK! Model, diva and German and Russian Interview editor-at-large Naomi Campbell was also looking at art or something like it in an unknown gallery. As was Pharrell, who was dressed in denim shorts and a policeman’s cap, looking like a German police officer who has lost his way. Photos by Dimitrios Kambouris.
